Welcome to Springfield Sports Academy! We are a new public charter school for competitive sports and academics serving grades EK-5.
Our mission is to promote the academic, emotional, and physical development of our students through the promotion of teamwork, sportsmanship and athletic competition. By developing these skills, student-athletes will become confident and capable contributing members of our community.
We believe family, fitness, and academics create the best kind of childhood & healthiest foundation for a life well-lived. We teach core academic subjects in the mornings, reserving afternoons for fitness & for students to pursue special interests like competitive sports or art.
• Academics – we teach an Ohio Standards-based curriculum and individualize instruction to each student by assessing students on a bi-weekly schedule to know if a student is working ahead, falling behind, or right on track. We teach our core subjects of English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies & Science every morning.
• Fitness & Extracurriculars– all students participate in our afternoon PE program which includes Health topics & Fitness activities. In addition to general PE, students can choose to play sports or participate in Art classes.
• Family – we value families, partnership & participation—within the school community & at home. All sports team practices and most games are scheduled during the school day to keep evenings free for family time.

Travonna Hunter, Principal
Travonna Hunter is the proud Principal of the Springfield Sports Academy. She has been in leadership positions from District Assessment & Student Services Coordinator, Reading Specialist, Assistant Principal, Principal and Regional Consultant. She has experience in K-12th grade with a range of subjects including Reading, Math, Social Studies, Science, and PE. Travonna holds a bachelor’s from Florida State University in Sociology. She completed her M. ED in Educational Leadership at Jacksonville University. As the school leader she is dedicated to building a positive culture of learning where we are a T-E-A-M who is ready to charge!
Dr. Chad Carr, Executive Vice President
Dr. Chad Carr is the creator of the Blitz™ Academic Model and joined ACCEL Schools in 2015 with over 27 years of experience as a K-12 educator, coach, principal, and superintendent of schools in Ohio and Kentucky. Prior to joining ACCEL Schools, Dr. Carr served as Executive Vice President of Mosaica Education, where he turned around failing charter schools in Ohio. Dr. Carr holds a Ph.D. in Education from Morehead State University and three Master’s degrees in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, and Administration from the University of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky University.

Founded in 2014, ACCEL Schools is a K-12 public charter school management organization (CMO) serving students across the United States in brick-and-mortar, virtual, and hybrid school settings. We focus on improving academic outcomes of students regardless of geographic location or socioeconomic factors. The leadership team at ACCEL Schools has a combined 1000+ years of experience as global school management operators with expertise in curriculum research and design, assessment, student support services, and education consulting. Our entire team fundamentally believes that all children deserve a great education and students should be supported as they pursue a wide variety of post-secondary options. Our robust technology increases engagement, access to resources, efficiencies, and academic results helping our students become productive global citizens.
